SCRIPTING
(We scripted this as a group but Frankie wrote it. The oberservations of people is from Frankies' perspective)
As a group we decided to task Max with the duty of the Newsreader (which he was very pleased about) as a group our next task was to plan a script that worked well with his personality and he would find easy to read.
The script will be separated into six different parts focused around the six different stories we have chosen.
The script planning so far consists of this.
Me and Olivia decided to come up with a plan which meant we'd copy the stories from the article and we'd put them onto our script planning which is on Google Drive, this is then shared between myself, Max and Olivia to make any improvements necessary between the three of us.
We would copy the stories and put them in red, this meant the stories were not completed and needed editing to make them suitable for the bulletin, once we'd finalized the story and as a group we felt they would work well, then they would be put Green- signifying that they are done and ready to be used in our bulletin.
Each story had to be changed and modified to a point where Max felt comfortable with what he was saying across the radio, the new story must be shorter than the story we found on the local news websites as we have a certain time limit that we must keep to. We have to fit everything in that certain amount as well as inform everyone of what's going on.
Below is the example of a finished story that was ready to be recorded (green) and below that is a story that needed some modifications(red) :
They were copied in no particular order but once we began to edit them we then decided on the running order of each report on how important they are to our target audience and what they will enjoy hearing. The running order will be in the next post which we are editing now to ensure that we all agree on how it will plan out and whether any improvements need to be made.
Currently the end result looked like this:
Script
Part 1:
*Jingle*
Olivia: I’m Olivia, it’s 1 O’clock and here’s the latest island news.
Olivia: Police are continuing to investigate a burglary of three shops in Ventnor on New Years Day. A 37 year old male has now been revealed to have been during the attack on the High Street and has been hospitalized. 3 men have been arrested following the incident, our reporter Frankie has more:
Frankie: 'At about 2:15 in the morning, local stores Wendy's, Premier and the former HSBC bank were broken into. A 37 year old male attempted to protect the stores windows from being smashed and suffered a fractured skull and several other injuries to his head.
Hampshire Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy and an 18 year old man from Ventnor, as well as a 20-year-old man from Sandown on suspicion of burglary, theft and grievous bodily harm with intent. They have been bailed until February 17.'
Olivia: If you have any information connecting to the attacks please call Isle of Wight Investigations Team on 101, the details are on our website.
SECOND STORY:
Two properties in Newport have been cordoned off after the discovery of a suspected bomb at the front of the houses. A bomb disposal team from Portsmouth were called to the deal with the explosive on (‘AR-GYLE’) Road at around 2 o clock. Police have taken the item to Newport Police Station where it will be inspected by the Royal Navy’s Bomb Disposal Unit.
THIRD STORY:
Repairs to Ryde Arena are starting to take shape after its closure in November last year due to electrical faults caused by water damage. However this has resulted in the skaters at the rink having their training disrupted in many ways and has meant the pantomime at the rink has had to be postponed until May, as we found out from Wight Jewels Skater Sarah:
INSERT SARAH INTERVIEW HERE
Back anno: Chairman Ian Jenkins says the the rink should be complete for public access in February.
FOURTH STORY:
Island teenager Danny Murphy has been selected to take part in an expedition to Antarctica. The 17 Year old was chosen from more than one thousand applicants to take part in the 14-day ‘Leadership on the Edge’ course in March, where he will learn about being a leader and saving the environment. The course is led by polar explorer Robert Swan, the first man to walk unsupported to both the North and South Poles.
FIFTH STORY:
Multimillion pound plans to build a new ‘nesting project’ at Robin Hill have been submitted. The Newport attraction wants to obtain approval for the construction of treehouses and lodges to encourage visitors to stay overnight. Our reporter Frankie spoke to Vectis Ventures employee Daisy Ness about the new venture:
TWO WAY:
Frankie: Daisy what can you tell us about the new project?
Daisy: We’re all very excited about this new project at the park. Nesting is a serious proposal that would help increase the existing tourism industry on the Island which contributes £520 million into the Island’s economy each year. The Island needs quality, fun and imaginative accommodation of this type to encourage more visitors to stay all year round and enjoy the park and its year round events.
Frankie: Are there any other benefits to this proposal?
Daisy: Definitely, with ‘Nesting’ Vectis Ventures are creating opportunities for local people, like me to have year round careers in tourism and at the same are time putting millions of pounds worth of investment into the local economy. It’s a very unique and exciting project.
Back anno: That was our reporter Frankie speaking to Daisy Ness from Vectis Ventures.
RANDOM ROOMS STORY
Here’s Max with the entertainment news:
ENTERTAINMENT:
“Thanks, Olivia… Busted, Pendulum, Sigma and Jess Glynne are among the latest announcements for this year's Isle of Wight Festival. It comes after Busted announced their first reunion since 2005 earlier this year. The event held from the 9th to the 12th of June at Seaclose park attracted 65,000 visitors last year.
Frankie’s been asking the public what they think of the latest announcements:
Frankie…
Max:If you’ve got an opinion on this year’s line up, tweet us your thoughts under under the hashtag RebelRadioFestival.
Island singer songwriter Lauran Hibberd has released her debut single, The House I Built When I Was Small. Lauran (Pro: LAUREN) studied music at Platform One Music College, and she’s managed by artist management company, Live Island. Her new song highlights the touching comparison between facing reality as a child and facing reality as an adult and has already been picked up for airplay by BBC Radio 6 Music on their show ‘Best of British Unsigned’
Lauran’s single’s available from iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music now.
Let’s go back to Olivia now with the weather…
Weather:
and finally the island’s set to get even colder tonight, with temperatures dropping as low as 5 degrees in some southern areas. No rain is forecast, however light and gusty winds until Sunday have been predicted island wide by the Met office. There’s more information and regular travel updates on our website rebelradio.co.uk, you can follow us on twitter, @RebelRadioAS or on our Facebook page.
"
This was now ready to go into our bulletin, once we had all our audio recorded and ready to include!
Specifically for this task we decided to set up our own Twitter page, our target audience are the ones that are most interested in social media sites such as Twitter for example and we felt that if we included our account then they will feel more connected with us, boosting up our credibility.
Each story was chosen in particular depending on how we thought our audience would enjoy/take interest on what was being reported on.
Our first story we wrote on the script was the Burglary story.
Our first story we wrote on the script was the Burglary story.
The Robin hill story which we originally planned to have in our bulletin has been taken out.
One we ran through the script, timing was an issue and as a group we felt that the longest and probably most unimportant to our target audience- The Robin hill story- was the one to be cut out of the bulletin.
Not only was the report a little bit too long but it was also a story we felt our target audience would not enjoy listening to the most; this is because when we did some research into the most popular target market going to Robin Hill was not teenagers in particular mainly adults with their young children.

Entertaiment News Story.
Hello readers!
Today I wrote an entertainment story about an islander who has written a song and released it. When proof reading it with my collegues; Olivia and Frankie, they noticed several aspects of the article that could be imporved. Instead of listing the changes, I've got the first draft of the article and the finalised improved article so you, readers can see the improvements yourselves! It's essentially a game of spot the difference!

Rebel Radio is a music station at heart. Our target audience is mainly down with music trends. We have given ourselves three roles to play. I will be presenting the show. Olivia will be reporting on the weather and Frankie will be the outside news broadcaster (OB). We will focus on local news. Our group is currently planning our awesome news stories. You'll love them. A more detailed blog about this will be published soon!
